Backgrounds

One of the first actions that the founders of the Chamber undertook was to present a writing to the Ministry of Public Works, which informed the recent creation of the first Chamber of Commerce in Mexico. In answer to this communication, Mr. Juan D. Arias spoke his congratulation to the industralists reunited in this new organization and asked for a copy of the Statutes for his due analysis and defense. In addition, he turned instructions to his collaborators so that they sent to our Institution a copy of the memories of the European Chambers of Commerce, that in the future successfully obtained the Ministry of Outer Relations of the Mexican Government.

Later, the members of the first Board of directors, that headed Esteban Benecke, industralist of  German origin living in Mexico, decided to send communications to the retailers of  Mexico City inviting them to join the new organization, indicating as a quota of affiliation the amount of two pesos monthly, that would be destined to cover the expenses of operation.

Letters were sent to the retailers of the ports and the cities with greater commercial activity of the interior, communicating to them the installation of the Chamber and inviting them to comunicate as well, to facilitate the progress and the general interests of the commerce.

In the later months letters of congratulation of the governors of the states of Hidalgo, Colima, Jalisco, Durango, San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato, Oaxaca, Michoacán, Querétaro, Veracruz, Yucatan, Campeche, Guerrero and Sinaloa were received, soliciting, as well, greater information than allowed them to promote the creation of similar organizations in their localities.
